Google Maps Wander

A tiny Maps concept for an afternoon with nothing urgent until dinner.

The idea

I wanted to get a little lost without missing dinner.

A couple of weeks ago in San Francisco, I had a few hours before dinner and wanted to wander. Maps could get me to a place, but it could not help me decide what to do with the time in between. Planning every stop felt like homework; winging it made dinner feel risky.

So I made Wander: a small Maps concept that offers one good next move, then adapts after you take it.

Try it

Pick a feeling. Wander handles the rest.

The live prototype recalculates the next stop and protects the time you need to make dinner.

What it does

Find a next stop, then adjust the plan so you still make dinner.

You choose a mood: safe, local, or wildcard. Wander returns a short set of places that fit the time you have, explains why each one fits, and keeps your reservation protected. After every stop, it offers the next move instead of locking you into an itinerary.

The point is not to discover the most places. It is to spend an afternoon well and still arrive on time.

What I'd do next

Test the promise before making the feature bigger.

I would test this with people who have a real commitment later that day. The hardest part is not finding a place. It is earning enough trust that someone lets the product steer their afternoon and still believes the arrival promise.
